  • Leave a Charitable Bequest | Believe in Me

Leave a Lasting Legacy with Charitable Bequests If you have included Believe in Me in your estate plans, please let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity, make sure the purpose of your gift is understood by the Foundation, and recognize you as a valued donor. Expressing Gratitude Bequests can be made to the Believe in Me for a specified amount, based on a percentage of your estate value, or for a portion or entire remainder of your assets after the bequests to your family have been made. There are a few ways to make a gift to the Foundation from your estate including signing a new will or living trust, adding a codicil to your existing will, or making an amendment to a previously existing trust instrument. Another way you can leave a bequest is to designate the Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. You can accomplish this by contacting the administrator of your retirement plan or your life insurance company to add the Foundation as a beneficiary using their beneficiary designation form. If you want these funds to be used for a specific purpose, you will need to draft a separate letter prepared with the help of our planned giving support team. Making a Bequest One of the first decisions you’ll need to make when planning your bequest to Believe in Me is whether you would like the funds to be restricted for a specific purpose or if they are fully unrestricted. Unrestricted bequests provide the flexibility for the Foundation to leverage the funds to address its most emergent and pressing needs. Restricted bequests require the Foundation to funnel funds to a specified purpose of your choosing. Each restricted bequest is unique so Believe in Me encourages donors who are considering this type of gift to have a conversation with a member of our team to ensure the appropriate language is included in your estate documents. Planning Your Bequest Remembering Believe in Me (the Foundation) with a bequest in your estate builds instant sustainability into our mission. Making a gift or bequest through your estate with a provision in your will, living trust, retirement plan, or life insurance plan is easier than you think. These transfers of securities, cash, or other assets are made by designating the Foundation as a beneficiary in your estate documents. What is a Bequest? As Chief Executive Officer, I am the person responsible for cultivating relationships with individuals who may be interested in leaving a bequest. I work alongside our board to develop and carry out our strategic plan that includes mechanisms for potential donors to make planned gifts. My perseverance, commitment to the mission, and passion for nonprofit work is what fuels our success. I’d be happy to sit down, get to know you in person, and share more information about bequests. If you’re interested in learning more about bequests, let’s have lunch soon! • How to Make Non-Cash Donations | Believe in Me

Save Money on Your Taxes with Non-Cash Donations As Chief Executive Officer, I am the person responsible for cultivating relationships with individuals who may be interested in donating a gift-in-kind. I work alongside our board to develop and carry out our strategic plan that includes mechanisms for potential donors to make planned gifts. My perseverance, commitment to the mission, and passion for nonprofit work is what fuels our success. I’d be happy to sit down, get to know you in person, and share more information about our in-kind gifts program with you. If you’re interested in learning more about donating gifts-in-kind, let’s grab a cup of coffee soon! Let's Grab a Coffee Julie Wukelic, MBA Chief Executive Officer Meet Our Chief Executive Officer Making an In-Kind Gift The process for making an in-kind gift is different depending upon the type of in-kind gift. If the nature and purpose of your gift are large, you will be asked to sign an in-kind gift document that outlines the intended purpose of the gift and expectations for how the Foundation will fulfill this purpose. For smaller donations, an online form will help to provide a description of the gift and its fair market value. The Foundation will provide you with a gift acknowledgment form to document your gift for tax purposes. If you’re considering making an in-kind gift to Believe in Me, please contact our Chief Executive Officer to make an appointment to discuss the details of the asset transfer. Gifts from donors can come in many different forms. In-kind gifts are donations of goods, services, or time, in lieu of cash. In-kind gifts can be both tangible and intangible. Gifts-in-kind are an important source of revenue, especially during times of economic downturn. In-kind donations are also a good way to cultivate support and build capacity for Believe in Me (the Foundation) while freeing up our cash for other operating expenses. Examples of In-Kind Gifts Equipment: capital assets, expensed equipment, office equipment, machinery, computers Services: printing, marketing, accounting, videotaping Loaned Labor: a type of corporate sponsorship whereby an employee with a specific skill or expertise is loaned out to a nonprofit to work on a short-term project or program Auction Items: new or used items are donated to a nonprofit to be auctioned off at a fundraiser Giveaway Items: tchotchke given to the Foundation to place inside giveaway bags for door prizes, etc. What are In-Kind Gifts? He made people believe in themselves". We want to invite you to learn more about the forever icon, David VonBrethorst, from both the Circling Raven Golf Club and the Believe in Me Golf Tournament. • Education | Believe in Me

Education Opportunities to Learn Statistics in the USA One in five kids in the United States lives in a household with an income below the poverty line. This means that millions of children are growing up without access to the resources they need to thrive. Unfortunately, this also has a major impact on their education. Studies have shown that kids from low-income families are more likely to drop out of school, and those who do graduate are less likely to go on to college. They are also more likely to struggle academically, and their test scores are typically lower than those of their more affluent peers. Why Marginalized Kids Struggle With School One of the most frustrating realities facing education today is that kids who need the most help often receive the least. Whether it's because of poverty, racism, or a lack of resources, these kids often start school at a disadvantage and then fall even further behind as they struggle to keep up with their peers. As a result, they are more likely to drop out of school and end up in a cycle of poverty and despair. <50% of low-income children are ready for school at the age of five Only 63% of kids from low-income families complete high school Only 40% of teen mothers graduate from high school 70% of inmates do not have a high school diploma >75% of low-income 4th and 8th-grade students are not proficient in reading or math >77% of 4th and 8th-grade students of color are not proficient in reading or math Students in foster care are more likely to be suspended or expelled from school Approx ⅔ kids in juvenile detention drop out of school Education Programs Help Kids Feel Smart Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and ensuring that all kids have an opportunity to succeed. Investing in education is essential if we want to create a fairer and more just society for everyone. Thankfully, there are programs and initiatives that are working to close the achievement gap and give all kids an equal chance at success. But until we address the underlying factors that disadvantaged kids face, we will continue to see too many bright young minds falling through the cracks. Giving Marginalized Kids Opportunities to Learn Too many kids in the United States are growing up without access to the resources they need to thrive, including a quality education. Millions of children are at a disadvantage from the start. They are more likely to drop out of school, and those who do graduate are less likely to go on to college. They are also more likely to struggle academically, and their test scores are typically lower than those of their more affluent peers. Believe in Me funds educational programs that provide support, resources, and opportunities to learn for marginalized kids. With your help, we can help them stay in school and graduate with the skills they need for future success. Your Donation Can Make A Difference All kids deserve a quality education! That’s why we're working hard to make sure that every child has the opportunity to succeed. We know that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and making society better for everyone. We also know that some kids don't have as many advantages as others, and we want to help change that. Keep reading for examples of how your kindness and caring are helping ensure no child is left behind. Donate Volunteer Apply for a grant
