We believe this method to be the industry-standard security protocol at the time we adopted it, which makes it extremely difficult for anyone else to intercept the credit card information you send to us. We use the vital piece to internet security called SSL technology (Secure Socket Layer) Easy to detect, you’ll know you’re on a secure web page if the web address begins with “https” rather than “http” and a padlock icon appears in the status bar at the bottom of your browser. Always look for these cues before entering sensitive information such as your credit card information. SSL uses a pair of asymmetric “keys” for encryption and decryption—one a public key and the other a private key. Essentially, data is locked with one key and unlocked with another. A string of numbers and letters is randomly generated by the encryption key and accompanies each piece of secured information. A decryption key is used when it reaches its destination, thereby securing information in transit. Copyrighted Information The design and content of this website is the property of Believe in Me. Marginalization, also referred to as social exclusion, occurs when certain groups of kids do not have equal access to various resources within our society. Marginalization causes the lack or denial of resources, rights, goods, and services and the inability to participate in relationships and activities available to most people in our community. Children are especially susceptible to these forms of marginalization as their childhood experiences pave the way for their adult lives. • Foster Care & Adoption | Believe in Me

Foster Care & Adoption Kids Need a Family That Loves Them Foster Kids Deserve a Chance at Life The number of foster youth in America is at an all-time high, with around 424 thousand children currently being cared for by the state. With a rise in childhood trauma, abuse, and neglect, there has been a significant increase over recent years as demand for foster families far exceeds what's available. Providing Healing to Foster Care Kids Foster kids face extreme trauma and are often bounced around from place to place, never really having a sense of stability or belonging. Having been removed from their homes without any warning, they face uncertainty about their future, not knowing when (or if) they will be able to return home, or where they will live next. Overcome with anxiety and insecurity, the emotional needs of foster kids are not being met, leading to serious problems like depression, substance abuse, and even suicide. It is essential that we do everything we can to provide them with stability and security, and make sure that their voices are heard. Latest Stories Foster kids have it tough. They often experience abuse, neglect, and trauma that can have lasting effects on their mental health. This makes it difficult for them to cope emotionally and interact with others. They need stability and security more than anything, but they often fall through the cracks. Believe in Me funds foster care services that provide support, resources, and a loving family for foster kids. With your help, we can give these kids the chance they deserve to heal and thrive. How Believe in Me is Tackling Educational Inequities in the Foster Care System By Cameryn Flynn It’s no secret that children in foster care often face educational disadvantages. Unfortunately, those disadvantages can follow them for the rest of their lives and make reaching success even harder. That’s why at Believe in Me we strive to ensure all children have access to comprehensive and equitable educational opportunities. Read Article National Adoption Awareness Month: Every Kid Deserves A Family That Loves Them By Julie Wukelic November is National Adoption Awareness Month. This is a time when we celebrate the families that have adopted children and raise awareness for the many kids who need homes. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the history and statistics and talk about how families can become involved in fostering and adopting kids. Read Article Foster Kids: How the Love Box and Dare To Dream Programs Bring Hope By Alexandra Martinez In celebration of Foster Care Awareness Month, we are continuously highlighting our most important projects to support organizations that are committed to helping foster kids in our community . Now, it’s our opportunity to share the valuable work that Spokane Angels is doing for kids and youth in our community. Read Article See Your Donation At Work We all have a responsibility to make sure that children are safe and well cared for. When they're in foster care, it becomes our shared goal--we must work together as one community! There's no single agency or program that can meet this burden alone; instead, there is an array of services available at every turn which will help shape them into successful adults because of generous people like you! Here’s a sampling of the programs your donations have helped to fund in the past: Donate Volunteer Apply for a grant By The Numbers 424,000 children currently being cared for by the state 90% of foster kids experience trauma 1 of 4 youth in foster care attempt suicide This is a paragraph where you can include any information you’d like. It’s an opportunity to tell a story about the company, describe a special service it offers, or highlight a particular feature that sets it apart from competitors. Donate Today Problems With Our Foster Care System FOSTER KIDS AGE OUT WITHOUT HOMES Every year, 20 thousand young people age out of the foster care system without having found a forever family. These young adults are left to fend for themselves with no support or protection from social services, which can make things challenging when you're just trying start your life again! HOTELS ARE NO PLACE FOR FOSTER CHILDREN State agencies are struggling to find enough foster homes for children in need. With such a shortage, they have been increasing the number of instances where these kids stay at hotels while being housed by family or friends with whom they can't yet establish an ongoing relationship. GROUP HOMES ARE ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION Group homes and institutions often account for 10% of all placements nationwide. They’re a critical source in emergency shelters due to limited options, but this should not rely on long-term housing as studies show congregate care causes harm (both physical & mental), reduce the timely placement rate, and significantly increases the chances of incarceration in adulthood. TOO MANY CHILDREN OF COLOR IN FOSTER CARE Foster kids of color are disproportionately represented in the foster care system due to a variety of factors including poverty, geography, and individual and systemic bias. They are more likely to be removed from their homes, stay in foster care longer, and are less likely to return home. This is a grave injustice that needs to be addressed.

Donor Spotlight John Powers lll We are thrilled to spotlight one of our generous donors, John Powers III. As the son of one of our board members and a successful commercial real estate agent at NAI Black, John is a shining example of someone who uses their success to give back to their community. John believes in creating opportunities through hard work and research and utilizes his confidence and abilities to develop a strong network of satisfied customers and clients. Before joining NAI Black, he worked for several Seattle and Puget Sound-based companies where he specialized in retail leasing and restaurant business, including a commercial real estate company he co-founded in Bellevue, WA. At that company, he was the Marketing Manager and Director of restaurant sales. He was responsible for taking the company from a small office start-up to being recognized as one of Washington's industry leaders in restaurant sales. Despite his impressive professional accomplishments, what truly sets John apart is his big heart and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. We are grateful for John's support and generosity. He is a shining example of how we can all make a difference in the world by using our talents and resources to support causes close to our hearts. Thank you, John, for being a part of the Believe in Me family and for your commitment to creating a brighter future for marginalized youth. Volunteers Julia Parmann was more than just a volunteer; she was a vibrant and passionate person who left a lasting impact on those around her. As a Believe in Me volunteer, we were very saddened to learn that she passed away shortly after our 2022 golf tournament, but her legacy lives on through her work with the Blazen Divaz. She deeply loved parades and had been involved in them since she was a child.
