Job Description

Believe in Me is looking to hire a Grant Writer to identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. The Grant Writer also ensures that  the Foundation’s grant-making and related processes, documents, procedures, and implementation are executed professionally, efficiently, on schedule, and in a manner consistent with best practices.

 

The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by federal, state, and private funding agencies. Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and demonstrated flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities is a must. A high degree of creativity, energy and initiative is required.

Grant Writing

  • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.

  • Research grant opportunities.

  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.

  • Submit proposals to Chief Executive and Grants Administration Committee Chair for approval.

  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.

  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.

  • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.

Responsibilities

Grant Administration

  • Provides administration for the grants process throughout all stages including receiving, assessing, tracking, and payment/check requests, documenting all inquiries and/or proposals; assuring that submitted documentation meets all Foundation and legal requirements, and maintaining accurate and timely records of Foundation grant-making and other programmatic activities.

  • Provides technical assistance to grantees with online application and reporting processes.

  • Maintains the online nonprofit database and physical grant files ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data as well as grantee relationship history.

  • Oversees standard terms and conditions for grant award letters and agreements.

  • Trains Foundation staff on grants management software; ensures that protocols are executed properly; creates and edits software templates, code, and reports.

  • Assists with required research pertinent to grant due diligence, ongoing review, and close-out analyses.

  • Works with Chief Executive Officer and Grants Administration Committee chair to create a grant cycle calendar and site visit schedules; assists with the preparation of grant-related materials for Committee and Board Meetings.

  • Supports the Foundation’s finance and communication functions; generates requested information, data, and reports from information maintained in the grants management database or other sources of information.

  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO or the Board of Directors.

General Copywriting

  • Write clear, attractive copy for website, blog, social media, and other channels

  • Interpret copywriting briefs to understand project requirements

  • Collaborate with designers, PR, and other professionals on large- and small-scale marketing projects (e.g., email campaigns and landing pages)

  • Conduct high-quality research and interviews

  • Edit and proofread copy as needed

  • Use SEO principles to maximize copy’s reach

  • Source images and other content

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, creative writing, or a related area (master's degree preferred)

  • A minimum of two years experience in grant writing

  • Strong presentation, communication, and organizational skills.  

  • Proficiency in G-Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail, Google Drive).  

  • Accuracy in written correspondence, record keeping, and ability to work under deadlines is critical  

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents and instructions  

  • Excellent grammar and strong research skills  

  • Ability to calculate figures 

  • Must be highly detail-oriented  

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines  

  • Experience working with high-level corporate volunteers and community leaders
