Family Authorization Form Record Video Recommendation Form Application PDF Application Checklist Frequently asked questions Are there any specific geographic requirements for this scholarship program? Yes - as cited in our eligibility section on our webpage, our scholarships are for individuals attending school in Washington State, Northern Idaho and Oregon. What is Believe in Me’s definition of education-bound individuals who can apply for this scholarship? As cited in our eligibility section on our webpage, our scholarships are for first-generation post-secondary education-seeking students who are pursuing an education at a two-year college, four-year college or university, independent private career school, or trade school. What defines a first-generation college student? Being a first-generation college student typically means your parents did not complete a 2-year or 4-year college or university degree. This definition focuses on your parents' education level and varies across different colleges and universities. If your parents completed some college courses, you may still be considered first-gen in certain institutions. For accurate information, consult campus resources like admissions or academic advising. Note that the education of other family members, such as siblings, doesn't affect this status, but they can be helpful resources in your college journey. How will I know when my recommendations have been completed? Once they’ve submitted a recommendation, you should receive an email confirmation from admin@believeinme.org. *Prior to submitting your application, we recommend that you check your references to ensure they are able to submit a recommendation for you before the deadline. Please take extra care when entering your references’ contact information as you will not be able to edit the form once it has been submitted. If you do discover an error in their email address, please contact our office to have it corrected. Do I have to fill out a FAFSA to apply for a scholarship? You will not need to have your FAFSA completed in order to qualify, apply, or be awarded a scholarship from Believe in Me. However, we advise checking with your counselor and reviewing the requirements listed at your educational institute of choice, as there may be specific requirements surrounding the completion of your FAFSA. Can I still get scholarships if I took a break from school? Yes. While some scholarships are only available to high school seniors or incoming college freshmen, our program is open to anyone seeking higher education, regardless of age or time off. We will, however, be prioritizing youth and young adults who meet our eligibility requirements. Can I still apply for other scholarships if I apply for this scholarship? There is no limit. Scholarships are awarded independently, so applying for multiple does not decrease your chance for any individual scholarship. You can be awarded more than one scholarship. My immigration/citizenship status is complicated. Can I get a scholarship? Yes, but it depends on your specific status. Undocumented and DACA students who have a valid Washington or Idaho state-issued I.D. are eligible to apply for our program. Do I have to pay for scholarships? Is there a fee required to submit? No. Like all legitimate and credible scholarship programs, our scholarship application process is free! Can I reuse past letters of recommendation for this scholarship? Unfortunately, we do not accept pre-written letters of recommendation. Our program requires all references to fill out an online form unique to our application. It contains specific questions they will need to respond to that will provide us exactly the information our Scholarship Committee is looking for. The good news is that these questions are straightforward and easily accessible so your reference will not need to spend a lot of time rewriting a new letter of recommendation. Note: if you have received a recommendation from the same reference before, you are allowed to use them again for this application. Just be sure to let them know they will be asked to fill out the form in lieu of providing us with a letter. What are my chances of getting awarded a Believe in Me scholarship? There are a number of things you can do to improve your chances of gaining a scholarship. When applying for scholarships, you should make sure to include all the documentation requested and dedicate plenty of time to writing your application. In particular, it’s important to clearly communicate your motivations for studying and how gaining a scholarship will support your ambitions. Stay within the deadlines and, most importantly, show the scholarship providers you have the potential to do great things! How do I receive my scholarship funds? An awarded scholarship is paid directly to the educational institution you designate – you don’t need to worry about coordinating or transferring any funds. What is a scholarship? A scholarship is a financial award for a student to further their education and is not required to be repaid. Have more questions?
